Can I get a new home security system with existing equipment in Las Vegas?
As you go about customizing your smart home, you might wonder if you should use brand-new equipment or if you can keep your home security system with existing equipment in Las Vegas.
If you own a component like a interior camera or a smart light, you might be in luck. You should be able to take your existing equipment and switch them to your Vivint smart home, but only if they have Z-wave linking and are on the compatibility list with the new system. Here are some familiar Las Vegas scenes where you could want to use your old equipment and link it to your new system.
You’re buying a house with home security alarms
A new house may come with an existing security system. All the devices work, are installed in the right spaces, and are ready to go. In this case, just pick up the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint expert will still come out to make sure there are no usability problems, and they might offer options on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick visit, and you can get your alarm monitoring set up without worrying about any new devices -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can give an existing Vivint contract to you for a nominal set-up fee to make the process simpler. If the owners downsize to a condo or smaller home, transferring the Vivint contract may be a condition of the sale.
You need to move and take your home security devices with you
You might need to bring along your favorite smart devices with you to your new house when you move. It should be fairly easy to accomplish, as most alarms and smart devices are portable. You can take down each alarm or camera yourself or call a Vivint installer to come and take care of everything. Then our installers will hang the same components -- and any smart services you need to add -- in the new home. The home security contract will remain the same.
You have a starter component and want to add on
Your exterior camera, garage door sensor, or small motion detector helped you see the value of a home security system, and now you need to build on. Don't worry too much if you’ll be throwing away that lone device because it could integrate with your new smart home. Security companies like Vivint have built their services by using the latest technology and welcome 3rd party alarms and cameras.
You might erase the saved data you have in the cloud, as they won’t move over into the Vivint app. But your component will still operate like it would when it was a single component. You may even find a few new actions available now that the component’s within a bigger smart home.
